There are many names here which are modern and have ancient roots. It should be a matter of pride to have a Tamil name. Most Tamils don’t have Tamil names because of our different religions. Most of these names are from Sangam Tamil words – Many ancient Tamil words have more than one meaning. The names in this list are from our ancient Sangam Tamil texts and also from the Dravidian Etymological Dictionary by Tamil scholars Burrow and Emeneau. It is the Sanskrit Shri adapted to Tamil.
